I decided to try Backblaze because the feature set seemed to meet my needs, and I also would plan to pay extra for the 1 year version retention. Of course, reliability is the most basic thing that the service should provide, and some of the reports about data loss with Backblaze and things not really being backed up are worrisome. I want external USB drive support and prefer retention of at least 1 year of file versions. I would prefer a service which doesn't charge $/GB since I know that would make me pick and choose what I want to backup, which creates the risk of losing something I forget to select. I already have local backups of many of these files, but want something offsite in the case of a fire or disaster at home. My goal is simple: backup my entire daily use computer and some external drives with photos and videos. I am having trouble trying out Backblaze, with frequent pauses of my initial upload for no clear reason that I haven't been able to resolve yet with my Backblaze support ticket and on Reddit. Just make sure to tag the post with the flair and give a little background info/context. On Fridays we'll allow posts that don't normally fit in the usual data-hoarding theme, including posts that would usually be removed by rule 4: “No memes or 'look at this '”
